Chapter 162: Danger

Chapter 162: Danger

"You’re going to WHAT?"

"Hijack a plane."

"I think I have worked so hard that I begin to hear things. My apologies, sir. I’m going to take better care of my health."

"No. You heard me right."

"..."

"Well, since you don’t want to learn, I guess I will just do it. Anyway, I’m sending you my location. Send a team here to take over the laboratory. They’re really making a poison here."

Arnie hung up and immediately sent the location before leaping into the sky. He had a ride to catch.

Since the plane hadn’t gone so high yet, he still had the time to enter the plane through the deck where they gunned down the beasts.

He first called another number.

"This is Adjudicator #F4."

"Identification."

"0 8 1 5 2 9."

"Confirmed. Chief Prosecutor Arnie Rostold."

"I need you to connect me to the Minister of Transportation right now. It’s urgent."

There was no more noise from the other end, but Arnie casually walked inside the cabin, heading toward the cockpit.

While waiting, he found a flight attendant and opened his coat, showing his badge. He then gestured to the flight attendant to move to a more secluded spot to talk.

"Give me a second." Arnie raised one finger, hearing that the call was connected.

"Good morning, Mr. Bryan."

"Yes? Why would a chief adjudicator call me?"

"Actually, I would like to borrow a plane for an urgent trip."

"I don’t think this is the time to joke around."

"Of course. I assure you that I’m not joking. Right now, I’m working on a case. I have enough evidence to believe that hundreds of civilians are going to be targeted, which has a high possibility of resulting in casualties.

"However, I don’t think it’s enough to justify my action, so that’s why I’m telling you that this case might end up threatening national security."

"..." The minister fell silent for a moment. As much as he wanted to say this was a joke, Arnie was a chief adjudicator. It was a title that not many could attain.

Arnie should know what he could and couldn’t ask. In other words, Arnie might have weighed the pros and cons of his action and decided that this matter was of utmost importance.

Hence, the minister asked, "What do you want?"

"In front of me is a flight attendant. I would like you to explain the situation and see if you can ask the pilot to change the direction to Thunderer City."

"Alright." The minister agreed.

Arnie then smiled and handed the phone to the flight attendant.

The minister revealed his information, which caused the flight attendant to panic. However, she soon calmed down and headed to the cockpit to hand over the phone.

In the end, the captain came out a few minutes later, with the plane changing direction.

The captain handed the phone back to Arnie while saying, "We’re now adjusting our course to Thunderer City."

"How long will it take to reach the city?"

"It should be one hour."

"Thank you." Arnie nodded.

The captain didn’t know what to say anymore. It was the first time he had encountered this situation, so he just nodded back and returned to the cockpit.

"Well, miss. I’m sorry that I held you for so long." Arnie smiled, gesturing to indicate that she was free to continue her duty.

Then Arnie called another person.

"Maya speaking."

"Maya. If I’m not mistaken, your city is currently facing a beast wave, isn’t it?"

"There are two beast waves, but yes, that’s correct. What? Are you nearby? I don’t mind receiving some help."

"I’m on my way there. Actually, I want to tell you about the investigation. Thanks to your student, I was able to find out the location of their lab. As he said, they were replicating the barrier, so the lab turned out to be hidden underneath Telekhram Ruins."

Maya asked, "So? How does this affect me?"

"After having a little chat with the people there, it looks like they are preparing a large amount of poison for that place. The vials that we’ve obtained? They’re just small samples. There should be at least a thousand liters of poison being transported to Thunderer City."

"!!!" Maya widened her eyes. "They’re targeting us? Also, what’s with the amount of poison?"

"I understand your confusion. Apparently, they’re enhancing a liquid extract from a beast with the energy from the ruins, which produced the poison. I will explain the details later, but that’s the gist of the situation. Right now, they’re trying to attack Thunderer City. I don’t know if it’s a grudge or something else."

Maya’s first thought was definitely Auric and his team. They might be targeted for exposing the transactions.

She suddenly realized the condition they were in. "This is a mess."

"What?"

"There was originally one beast wave. We tried to direct them away from the city, but they ended up splitting into two groups. The larger beast wave still continued toward the city, but the smaller beast wave was behaving strangely. Right now, the students from the Grand Magica College are going to stop the smaller beast wave."

"Ah, shit." Arnie facepalmed. "We need to evacuate them now."

"No time. It’s coming in three minutes."

It was pretty clear what they were trying to do. All this time, the targets of their poison had been students.

In other words, they might be using the beasts to harm the students with poison.

Maya immediately looked at the map again and noticed what was going on. "Found it. I checked the route of this smaller beast wave. They actually passed through quite a wide area that was possible to coat them in poison."

Arnie gulped. "They are pouring poison on the road. Thanks to the beasts running on all fours, their feet will end up coated in poison as they pass the area."

"Yeah. That’s what I’m thinking after listening to your information."

Arnie gritted his teeth. It was a clever plan. They would be able to conduct a massive poisoning by using something that they didn’t expect. If the experiment succeeded, the beasts might become another tool for their organization.

They had no time to evacuate. Arnie pinched the bridge of his nose. "This doesn’t look good."

"I know. I’ll do what I can here. Meanwhile, you should hurry."

"Yeah. Take care."

Maya closed her eyes for a few seconds. The enemy had truly played them well. They wanted to target Auric and his group as well as conduct a large-scale experiment using the students.

Maya rushed back to Principal Fernandes.

"Maya?" Principal Fernandes was confused. Maya was supposed to be one of the people who would direct the beasts away. She should have fulfilled her duty two minutes ago. "What’s wrong? Did we fail?"

"No. However, we’ve got a much more serious situation." Maya called Arnie back.

"Yes? Do you remember something else?"

"I need you to explain the situation to the one in charge." Maya then gave her phone to Principal Fernandes while saying, "We also need to set up another camp for the injured students. All teachers are to stand by because all students can become a target."

Principal Fernandes was perplexed.

However, Maya simply left after handing him the phone, so Principal Fernandes asked for the details from the one on the phone.

Meanwhile, Maya rushed to Auric.

"Teacher?" Auric was startled. Maya wasn’t supposed to be here, after all.

"You were right. The organization was using the ruins to create its poison. According to Arnie, they created a laboratory underneath Telekhram Ruins."

"Telekhram Ruins?" Auric tilted his head, not knowing the information about this place.

"It’s quite famous, considering the ruins have four elements."

"Ah!" Auric nodded in understanding. "So..."

"It looks like those vials are just small samples. The real product can reach thousands of liters. This means they can pour the poison on the road and coat the claws of the passing beasts."

"!!!" Auric and the rest of the group were shocked. This was a rather vicious way of using poison.

"It looks like they’re going to use this chance not only to target your group but also to conduct a large-scale experiment by using all the students here. There is no more time to evacuate, so we have to do the second-best thing."

"We need to inform the students to avoid injuries as much as possible. I may be able to treat them, but I’m afraid I’ll become the priority target because of this. So, I will need to ask someone else to prepare a way to treat them without pointing the finger at me."

"I will ask the Evolution Department..."

"I can ask my mother." Milinda raised her finger, offering a solution.

"Professor Vienna..." Maya frowned. It looked like there was no other choice. "All right. I will ask Professor Vienna. You guys stay here and try not to get injured. I will have to go around after this to help the injured students. Or else, the situation will be catastrophic. They’re truly killing two birds with this one..."

"Wait!" Auric raised his finger. "It might—!"

Before he could say his piece, the beasts let out a series of roars, notifying them of their arrival.

Roar!

Roar!

Roar!

"!!!" Arina gasped. "We don’t have time. You can say your piece after this, Auric. We need to focus first."

"The wave is going to arrive in thirty seconds." Ellia drew her sword. Her tone felt more reassuring, as though she were planning to buy him time.

Auric smiled wryly. "Will that be a problem?"

"Nope. Take as long as you need." Ellia leaped to the front, as if planning to take on the whole beast wave just to buy time for Auric.

Since Ellia understood Auric, she definitely knew that Auric was insisting on saying his piece because that piece might be an important lead to their situation.

That was why Ellia didn’t stop him.

Milinda was startled by the weird trust between Ellia and Auric. She shook her head and formed her spear before charging forward.

Eric didn’t care much about what Auric wanted to say. He merely intended to fulfill his role in this group.

Arina could only sigh. Since all these people were moving, she had no choice but to support them.

Auric took a glance at the incoming beasts. When they pounced on Ellia and the others, Auric could see the particles sticking to their feet and bodies.

It looked like their current theory was correct. Because it was outside the body, the beasts weren’t affected by the poison.

Still, they would deliver the poison by using the claws. It was an extremely dangerous weapon. It could even be used during student events or something.

That was why Auric was even more convinced of his theory.

"What’s wrong? We don’t have time." Maya frowned.

"The theory is right. The beasts have multiple elements on their feet. Some of the poison is also sticking to their bodies. It doesn’t look harmful to them since the poison will only be harmful to the target the moment it enters the body and interferes with their circulatory system."

"I will tell Arnie about the confirmation." Maya nodded. "But you mentioned earlier that they might have another goal..."

Auric nodded. "They might be trying to kill three birds with one stone this time. There are new ruins with all elements not far from Thunderer City. I’m afraid they’re going to use that place to form another laboratory."

"What?" Maya gasped. The poison they could make must be limited to the elements they had from the ruins. In other words, if they had a laboratory connected to ruins with all elements, they could create as much poison as they wanted.

"What is that place?"

"Remember the ruins I went to with Ellia and Arina?"

"That’s the ruins?!"

Auric nodded. "It’s located southeast of the city."

"Southeast..." Maya felt a chill down her spine. "They’re really committing to this attack. Even if we manage to repel the beast wave, all our personnel are in the northwest. It’s the opposite direction of the ruins. This means no one is paying attention to the ruins.

"Still, because of the location, they might be going all out to ensure Thunderer City falls. This way, they will be able to use the ruins without worrying about any force from Thunderer City. In other words, they might send agents strong enough to interfere with our forces or sneak into our city..."

"!!!" Auric widened his eyes. He never thought the situation was actually this dire.

"Sorry, but I might have to leave you here. I need to go back. Lend me your phone."

As soon as she got his phone, Maya immediately rushed back while calling one number.

"To think that the student of my granddaughter will be calling this old man..."

"It’s me."

"My beloved granddaughter?"

"Code Red. Thunderer City might fall. Requesting all units to go to this city."
