Chapter 676: Extra 089 Don’t Try to Snatch Mu Cidian from My Hands (One more update)
Mu Cidian was out for a day.
Xin Zaozao was okay, but the nanny kept nagging, asking when her husband would be back? She didn’t feel used to his absence at all.
They really weren’t used to it.
Usually, when the baby cries, the first one to pick him up is definitely Mu Cidian. The nanny sometimes feels like she’s just assisting.
The baby now seems to have developed a dependency on Mu Cidian too. As he wasn’t around today, the baby was fussy – not that he couldn’t be soothed, after all, the baby’s time is mostly spent eating and sleeping. However, it just felt like something, a lot of things, were missing.
Once the nanny managed to lull the baby to sleep, she started muttering again, “When on earth is Sir coming back? Usually, he doesn’t leave my side, but today he’s been gone all day.”
“Everyone has things to do.” Xin Zaozao commented calmly.
It was evening now, and Mu Cidian has indeed been absent for a day.
The nanny smiled and commented, “I always thought Sir’s whole life revolved around Madam and the baby. He’s so good, I’ve never seen such a dutiful husband before.”
Xin Zaozao didn’t seem to want to hear anymore.
This line was repeated too many times by the nanny.
It wasn’t irritation, but hearing it always made her feel somewhat ... guilty.
She doesn’t think she’s done anything wrong by Mu Cidian, but each time the nanny says such things, she feels terribly at fault.
“It’s almost dinner time, why not call Sir and ask if he’ll be back for dinner. He said this morning that he wouldn’t be back for breakfast, but he didn’t say anything about dinner.” the nanny suggested again.
Tired of the nanny’s constant murmuring, Xin Zaozao picked up her phone.
She listened to the ringing on the phone, each ring resonating anew.
It was not the first time she had called Mu Cidian.
The two hadn’t been apart for a long time.
Yet at this moment, she felt her heartbeat accelerate with each ring.
She lightly bit her lip.
The call was answered from the other end, “Hello?”
It was a female voice.
The moment she heard it, Xin Zaozao recognized the voice.
“Hello, Mu Cidian can’t take calls at the moment. I’ll ask him to call you back later.” Lei Qian kindly replied.
“Doesn’t he have my name saved in his phone?” Xin Zaozao asked, her voice somewhat cold.
“Is this... Xin Zaozao?” the person on the other end speculated.
Xin Zaozao chuckled coldly.
“Oh, don’t get me wrong. Mu Cidian is just helping me with my father’s affairs today. There’s nothing between us. His phone is not allowed because of certain matters. So, he left it outside, and as it kept ringing, I answered it for him. Please don’t misunderstand.” She was explaining rather hastily. Such an explanation would naturally lead to misunderstandings.
“I’m not misunderstanding.” Xin Zaozao replied, “Mu Cidian has assured me he has never had anything to do with you, so he’s unlikely to maintain any connection with you.”
There was silence on the other end.
Lei Qian gritted her teeth.
She glanced at the closed room. Because it involved some legal matters, the person going in for the negotiation was not allowed to bring a cell phone, which was why Mu Cidian’s mobile was left outside. She had intentionally answered Xin Zaozao’s call.
Mu Cidian had indeed saved Xin Zaozao’s name. She was just pretending.
Pretending to make Xin Zaozao misunderstand.
“That’s good, that’s fine.” Lei Qian hastily replied, showing no signs of anger.
“Lei Qian.” Xin Zaozao’s voice deepened.
Lei Qian clenched the cell phone, her face grim.
“Stop humiliating yourself. I won’t hold you accountable for what happened before. Don’t push your limits!” Xin Zaozao warned her sternly.
She had a limit to her patience with this woman.
If it were not for the sake of the baby, she wouldn’t let it rest!
Lei Qian’s eyes shifted.
At that moment, she saw Mu Cidian exiting the room.
Her facial expression changed instantly, “Xin Zaozao, I merely requested Mu Cidian to assist my father, nothing else. Why do you have to speak to me in that manner? When you didn’t want Mu Cidian, you rejected him; now you want him and there’s no one more humiliated than me in between you two. Why must you humiliate me, what have I done...”
Tears began to stream down her face again.
Mu Cidian’s eyes narrowed.
At that moment, he saw Lei Qian holding his cell phone, talking while crying.
He walked up and took the phone from Lei Qian’s hand.
The official nodded, “But Lei Qian, you really should thank Mu Cidian more. He has tried so many ways to find all this useful evidence for your father. The fact that your father can be exempted from criminal punishment this time is mainly thanks to Mu Cidian.”
“Cidian,” Lei Qian suddenly raised her glass.
Mu Cidian had already had quite a bit due to entertaining the officials that night, but Lei Qian didn’t seem to notice and insisted on toasting Mu Cidian. This was obviously the officials’ scheme at the dinner, hoping everyone would drink more.
Mu Cidian didn’t refuse and drank a toast with Lei Qian.
After Lei Qian finished her drink,
The lawyer joked again, “There’s not only Mu Cidian who helped this time, do you not plan on toasting officials Wu and Yang?”
Lei Qian hurriedly picked up her glass.
Mu Cidian had just shielded Lei Qian from being bombarded with drinks, and he was now very drunk.
Everyone at the dinner table had had quite a lot to drink.
When dinner ended, as the identities of the officials were special, they skipped the second round. Mu Cidian then sent them off one by one onto their cars.
After sending everyone off, as Mu Cidian was preparing to leave,
Lei Qian suddenly leaned on him.
She said, “Mu Cidian, I feel so terrible, I want to throw up...”
Mu Cidian straightened her posture.
He kept a distance from her.
Lei Qian was swaying, looking as if she was about to fall over at any moment.
Mu Cidian hailed a taxi and got in with Lei Qian.
Lei Qian sat in the back, and Mu Cidian sat in the front passenger seat.
Lei Qian stared at the distance Mu Cidian was intentionally keeping from her.
She clenched her teeth.
And pretended to be drunk still.
The car arrived at Lei Qian’s home.
Mu Cidian got off the car and sent her in.
Lei Qian purposely leaned her entire weight onto Mu Cidian’s body.
Mu Cidian deliberately used his hand to block Lei Qian’s limp body.
After arriving at Lei Qian’s house, Mu Cidian turned around to leave.
Lei Qian suddenly rushed towards Mu Cidian and vomited all over him.
After vomiting, Lei Qian seemed to be instantly sober.
She hurriedly said, “Mu Cidian, I am sorry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it, I didn’t... You can come in and change your clothes...”
Mu Cidian wrinkled his brows.
“You still have a set of clothes here that you forgot to take away. I had washed it and hung it out on the balcony, but you forgot to collect it,” Lei Qian hurriedly said.
Mu Cidian was a germaphobe.
At that moment, he really couldn’t tolerate the filth all over his body.
He hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside Lei Qian’s home.
Lei Qian quickly gathered his clothes and handed them to him.
Mu Cidian went to Lei Qian’s bathroom.
Watching him go in, Lei Qian smiled victoriously.
She quickly returned to her room and changed into a very revealing and transparent nightgown. She put on a outer garment and sat in the living room, waiting for Mu Cidian to come out.
When Mu Cidian came out, he was neatly dressed.
It truly looked like he had just visited the restroom; there was no indication that he had taken a shower. He didn’t want to give anyone the wrong impression.
Upon leaving the bathroom, Mu Cidian headed straight for the door.
Lei Qian suddenly hugged him from behind.
Her body pressed tightly against his.
Mu Cidian’s expression darkened.
“Cidian, I miss you, I really miss you, I really can’t live without you, don’t leave, okay? I beg you not to go...” Lei Qian held him tightly, her emotions spilling over at that moment.
“Let go of me!” Mu Cidian’s voice was deep and cold, somewhat scary.
“No, I won’t let go. If I let go, you’ll leave. Consider this as my repayment to you, for helping my father. I won’t make you take responsibility for me, I won’t, I beg you, just once, once is enough!”
She cried heart-wrenchingly.
