Chapter 671: Extra 084 Xin Zaozao, Is it So Hard to Admit Defeat? (First Update)

Xin Zaozao fell asleep immediately.

She slept deeply, as if all the tiredness of her life had been pushed away, sound and solid.

In her deep sleep, she occasionally heard the crying of the baby and the soothing sound of Mu Cidian’s gentle voice. Despite her struggle, she failed to wake herself up, feeling as though she had been asleep for a long, long time.

When she finally woke up, the room was dim, a clear sign that it was nighttime again.

She remained silent, and the person beside her did not seem to notice that she had awakened.

She watched him, attentively singing nursery rhymes to the baby in his arms.

His deep voice was soft and low, likely in fear of waking her up.

He held the baby with his back to her – the faint glow of the lamp emphasizing his slender figure. His body swayed gently in tune with the lullaby he was singing, radiating warmth and tenderness.

A hint of bitterness invaded Xin Zaozao’s nose. Just by observing this simple scene, which would be considered normal by others – she found herself deeply moved.

This was typical of Mu Cidian.

He was the type of man whom one could hate, profoundly, yet love passionately.

She bit her lip.

Suppressing her emotions.

She had grown used to being aloof, regardless of what she encountered. It had been many years since she last truly expressed her feelings.

The lunar nanny in the room could not bear it any longer. She turned to Mu Cidian and asked, “Sir, is the baby asleep yet?”

“Hmm, yes, she’s asleep,” responded Mu Cidian, his voice deep and magnetic.

“If she’s asleep, set her down. Otherwise, the baby will become reliant on being in the arms of adults and struggle to fall asleep on her own.”

“Hmm,” Mu Cidian replied.

Even after responding, he continued holding his little princess in his arms.

The nanny was speechless.

She had kindly reminded him several times, but he dismissed her each time.

She had cared for numerous newborns, but this was the first time she encountered a father so unwilling to let go of his child.

As if the moment he put her down, he’d be losing his entire world. He continually held her in his arms, cherishing her as if she were a precious gem.

The nanny did not say anything more.

After all, if the baby insisted on always sleeping in the arms of an adult, they would soon regret it.

She changed the subject, “Madam has been sleeping all day, should we wake her?”

“Let her rest a bit longer, she’s very tired,” Mu Cidian answered quietly.

“But she hasn’t eaten all day?”

“She will wake up when she’s hungry.”

“The baby should start trying to breastfeed soon, too. We don’t know if Madam’s milk has come in yet.”

“When the baby wakes up, we can feed her formula,” Mu Cidian stated bluntly.

Again, the nanny was speechless.

It seemed that in front of this man, her wealth of experience as a nanny was completely worthless.

She fell silent.

Mu Cidian continued holding the baby and softly comforting her.

Xin Zaozao could no longer keep up the pretense; she was truly hungry.

And she wanted to try breastfeeding her child.

She made a tiny sound.

Mu Cidian turned towards her, holding their baby and noticed Xin Zaozao’s body shifting on the bed.

He held the baby as he went over to her.

Xin Zaozao looked at Mu Cidian.

As his handsome countenance approached her, he asked, “You’re awake?”

“Hmm.”

“Are you hungry?”

“Hmm.”

Mu Cidian turned to the nanny and said, “Ms. Wu, could you please ask the nurse to bring over the confinement meal as soon as possible.”

“Alright.” The nanny quickly left the room.

Xin Zaozao sat up on the bed.

Having had a good sleep, she felt refreshed.

Except for her stomach, which was incredibly famished.

She watched as Mu Cidian continued to hold the baby, her baby, in his arms, calmly sleeping amid his gentle caress.

Feeling her gaze, Mu Cidian hastily handed the baby over to her, “Would you like to hold her?”

Xin Zaozao nodded.

Mu Cidian placed the baby in her arms.

Being placed in a new embrace made the baby stir slightly, appearing somewhat uncomfortable. However, she soon fell asleep once again.

Xin Zaozao watched her daughter intently.

A tiny, little creature.

Such a small entity had the ability to bring them immeasurable warmth.

“The confinement meal is here,” announced the nanny.

At that, both parents seemed to snap back from their baby’s world.

Maybe it was because giving birth weakens the body, but her legs went weak and she suddenly crouched down.

Luckily she had been holding onto the bed, she didn’t make much noise and none of them were disturbed.

Xin Zaozao, gripping the edge of the bed, struggled to stand up again.

Why were her legs so weak?

She held onto the edge of the bed and the wall, taking one small step at a time towards the bathroom.

There was a small step leading into the bathroom,

Xin Zaozao made an effort to lift her foot to step in, tried several times but found it hard.

She took a deep breath, preparing to muster the strength to lift her foot, when she suddenly heard a voice from behind that nearly scared her to death.

“When will you finally learn to ask for help?” Mu Cidian asked her.

Xin Zaozao turned her head abruptly.

She looked at Mu Cidian.

She noticed that he had sat up from the couch at some point.

She had probably been too focused on walking earlier and hadn’t noticed that Mu Cidian was awake.

She leaned against the doorframe, “When did you wake up?”

“The moment you got up.” Mu Cidian replied.

Which meant he had been awake when she fell down?!

“Watching you move around like a duck.” Mu Cidian added.

Xin Zaozao was angered.

Just thinking that Mu Cidian had just watched her in such a “pitiful” state made her feel like strangling him.

She saw that Mu Cidian suddenly got up.

Just as suddenly, he walked over to her.

With his towering figure, she felt enveloped by him, and Xin Zaozao felt oppressed.

Intensely so.

She always felt that this man behaved differently when he was with his daughter compared to when he was with her, as if he were two different people.

Mu Cidian didn’t say anything, he suddenly bent down and carried her in his arms.

Xin Zaozao instinctively held onto his neck.

“Is it so hard to admit defeat?” Mu Cidian asked her.

Xin Zaozao turned her head, refusing to look at him.

“I thought you would give up, I thought you would at least make a sound, if I hadn’t said anything, were you planning on crawling into the bathroom without asking for my help?” Mu Cidian asked her, with a fiercely pressing tone.

Xin Zaozao remained silent.

Mu Cidian said, “Answer me.”

“I want to use the bathroom.” Xin Zaozao was not willing to reply.

She had truly never thought about asking anyone for help.

She had gotten used to it, used to doing everything by herself.

It wasn’t like she didn’t have friends around her.

But she had gotten used to, gotten used to, taking care of herself.

Because of her past experience, she knew that she could only rely on herself, that she could only bear the pain by herself.

“Answer me first.” Mu Cidian demanded.

“Do you want me to urinate on you?”

“I don’t mind.”

“Mu Cidian.” Xin Zaozao was about to explode at Mu Cidian.

She said, “What do you want? Must you force me like this?”

“Yes, I must!” Mu Cidian enunciated each word.

“Yes. I never thought anyone would come to help me, haven’t I been alone since childhood? When has anyone ever genuinely helped me when I asked for it! When I was young, I said I wanted a Barbie doll as a birthday gift, your mother gifted me several disgusting rats! Mu Cidian, how do you expect me to learn to ask others for help?” Xin Zaozao was a bit agitated.

Her agitated voice seemed to awaken the maternity matron.

The matron moved a bit, “Is the baby awake?”

“No, you continue sleeping. If the baby wakes up, I’ll call you.” Mu Cidian’s voice was low.

“Oh.” The matron turned over and went back to sleep.

The room quieted down again.

Xin Zaozao said, “Put me down.”

Mu Cidian carried her into the bathroom and placed her onto the toilet seat.

He said, “I’m sorry.”

Xin Zaozao did not reply.

Some hurts, she really didn’t want to remember.

“I’ll wait for you at the door.”

Saying that Mu Cidian stepped out of the bathroom.

Standing at the door, leaning against the doorframe, there was a slight redness around his eyes.

Everything that had transpired, everything Xin Zaozao had experienced, how was he ever going to make up for it?

From inside the bathroom, the sound of the toilet being flushed was heard.

Mu Cidian pushed open the room door.

Life is long, he could slowly warm her heart.
