Chapter 187 187 | Timeskip: Memories
In the crimson throne room of the Clan, Hecate frowned and rubbed her temples. A nerve popped from her forehead, anger seething from the depths of her heart. She had forgotten something so important.
It only took one flash of light.
Her life, her comrades, and her love was completely erased from existence. If not for the corona of the solar eclipse blinding her, she would have never remembered why she was so protective of the throne.
"The progenitor... My partner took care of that man. Why I was so adamant as the ruler of the Clan was because of that inherent instinct. It was as though the crimson throne was the only thing I recognized."
Hecate muttered to herself and clenched her fist. Although she had regained her memories, she hadn't forgotten the new ones. These two world views clashed against one another, too different and too stubborn.
But one thing connected these memories together and that was her partner Damien. Beforehand, he was a young man who wished to spend his time with the Block 7. Now... Like her, he had become the ruler of the Enclave.
The Monarch of Monsters.
As she pondered and skimmed through the memories, she recalled New Janus where Block 7 was situated. Without a single hint of hesitation or delay, she disappeared from the crimson throne room.
Hecate wanted to meet them. She didn't care about what they thought of her as the so-called new progenitor of the Clan. She simply wanted to see them once again.
It was as though a lifetime had passed since she last saw them with her very eyes.
In New Janus, the looming tower pierced through the sky as the bustling streets were crowded with people. Even with the separation of the Seventh Division, the city thrived and continued to prosper.
Above the rooftop of a concrete building, Hecate watched the familiar scenery. Nostalgia flashed through her eyes before dimming. Even though she had regained her memories, it felt somewhat foreign to her.
She wasn't the same Hecate who followed the steps of her partner and seniors. She wasn't the crimson-haired vampire of the Block 7. She was now the progenitor of the Clan. Although she felt conflicted about her people, she was their ruler regardless.
"Sigh... why must everything become complicated?"
Hecate muttered to herself and turned away. The cold breeze of wind danced through the strands of her crimson hair. Before she could leave the rooftop of the concrete building, she heard a familiar voice.
"Oh my... It has been a while, Hecate."
A gorgeous white-haired lady appeared behind her alongside a black-haired senior whose sapphire-like eyes hid behind her silver-rimmed eyeglasses. These were none other than Alastair and Francine, Hecate's seniors.
"To think that our junior would become the new progenitor of the Clan."
Francine remarked with a smile while Alastair softly chuckled. Hecate couldn't bear to look at them, understanding how deep the chasm between them and her was.
Taking a deep breath, Hecate calmed herself as her crimson eyes wandered towards the two beautiful ladies. A smile tugged her lips as she responded.
"At least I didn't become the High Consul of the Federation."
"Oh~ The little red head finally understands how to tease..."
Alastair smirked at the little one, her original personality returning to its rightful place. She didn't expect to have become an exhausted and gentle white demon.
Perhaps if she had chosen to keep power and ensured the completion of the SIGIL, it would have become her future. After all, no matter how easygoing she was. Alastair had always been a responsible person.
If she wasn't, who knows what would have happened if the strongest of humanity was an irresponsible one.
Hearing the two lightly bicker, Francine shook her head and sighed. To be honest, everything that had occurred felt like a dream. It was peculiar and strange, as though she was at a daze.
As she stared at the city of New Janus, her sapphire-eyes glimmered as she whispered to herself.
"Sorry for letting you carry the weight of the world, Damien..."
Before she could continue, Francine felt a presence behind her. Alastair and Hecate also stopped bickering, glancing towards her direction. Their gazes went through her, looking at someone.
"No need to apologize, Francine."
"Even I was barely lucid from that ordeal."
Damien gently smiled as all of them had finally reunited together. Of course, there were the juniors. But the main force of Block 7 has gathered into one single location. It has been a while.
"Oh dear~ isn't this the king of monsters himself..."
Alastair covered her lips, feigning a shocked expression. Francine shook her head while signing and Hecate stared at her partner with her crimson-tinted eyes.
"Please... I'd rather not remember that peculiar title."
Damien gave a wry smile before coughing to attract their attention. After all, the reason why he had proactively returned their memories wasn't merely because he wanted to see them. It was a part of it.
"The solar eclipse brought about by my power does not alter reality like that flash of light beforehand. It merely returned the lost memories of the past unaltered world."
"Even if we did manage to regain our memories, our new identities remained. The effect it brought to the New World lingers. I cannot change that."
Hearing his explanation, his comrades also became seriousness as they pondered about the matter. Alastair glanced at her strongest junior and tilted her head.
"You must be implying that there is an entity behind that flash of light."
Damien nodded in agreement, relieved that his boss understood his intentions. His sable-tinted gaze wandered into the horizon as he continued.
"Indeed, there are... These entities cannot be underestimated as they are the harbingers of destruction. They were the ones that brought extinction to humanity outside the New World."
"They are the pinnacle of Aberrants, the destroyer of worlds."
"And they have begun moving towards us."
"The end is nigh."
