Chapter 182: Third Art
Chapter 182: Third Art
Back in Wild Earth, the Shrine Maiden Doll knelt in front of the obsidian statue and prayed.
’Can you hear me, God of Eldritch Terror?’
Silence fell. But the Doll kept waiting.
’Yes...’ A voice replied.
"You have something new you want to tell us about Adrenaline?" Nina said.
They were inside the training facility of the Metabolic Institute. Nina, Quill, and Nicholas were there.
Carter was wearing the System Ghost Skin and had the appearance of Carter Caine.
Carter nodded. "From what I’ve learn through Arthur’s status, the Metabolism Manipulation Skill is a bit different that we thought."
"What do you mean ’different’?" Quill frowned.
Carter pulled up a slideshow and showed the three what he had found.
"Metabolism Manipulation is the core of Superhuman. We achieve it by simulating the process of releasing and suppressing Adrenaline at will. Through Metabolism Manipulation we can also control the biological processes within our body, most notable is the ability to release energy in abundance for Adrenaline.
But this skill is not something an ordinary human has. They have to learn it. But how can a blind human learn to see? You can’t. You need to give them a pair of eyes first. That is what the Heart Race Potion comes into the picture."
The slideshow changed and now had a graph showing the effects of Heart Race Potion.
"Heart Race simulates the process of Awaken Adrenaline, giving us a pair of eyes so to speak and from there we learn how to see. But from Arthur, I found out that we have the pair of eyes all along."
"Am I dumb? I seriously don’t understand anything." Nicholas scratched his head.
Carter continued, "The difference between Arthur and others is that... he believes he can learn Metabolism Manipulation."
Nina frowned deeply, "Belief? So an ordinary human can learn Metabolism Manipulation by believing in themselves?"
"That is absurd! I always believe I can make it. But it didn’t work." Quill said.
"Please. You have so much self-doubt that I can’t even comprehend." Nina rolled her eyes. "But he has a point. I also believe that I can do it. But I didn’t learn the skill as well."
Carter raised a finger, "There is a reason for that."
He pressed to the next picture, "There is another substance exists in all of us that we can’t see. I call this ’Willpower’."
The three focused and looked at what was on the screen. An invisible matter with no weight nor presence able to manipulate the bloodstream. It was a completely mental process and not physical.
Carter could only see it because he had two Enlightenment Skills.
"You must know that on my journey, I was able to find two specific techniques called Mental Arts. These Mental Arts are very suitable to the Invokers so I gave it to them."
"Don’t you tell me..." Nina said. "We can practice this Willpower through Mental Arts?"
"Precisely. But not the Mental Art that the Invokers use. I, Dr. Frankenstein, and Zeneros have developed another Mental Art. An easier, simpler technique that doesn’t require the power of an Invoker to use. We call this the Art of Willpower. Read it yourself."
Carter sent the files to their mobile phones. He really had developed this with the help of the Shrine Maiden Skin.
Interdimensional communication proved incapable. But Carter had also figured out a workaround. When he or his Dolls wore Zeneros Blackburn Skin, they could hear the prayer in Wild Earth. This was the same case when Carter could hear the prayers in Hexilia back when he was in Wild Earth.
Shrine Maiden with her Transcension Abilities and Divination Skill allowed Carter to find the best path to create the Will Art. He wasted a few days to finalize everything but he succeeded in the end.
"Woah..." Nina read the Will Art. It was like some holy texts to her. It showed her an aspect of the human psyche that she could never understand. "This is almost... an Ascended Path."
"Ascended Path?" Quill said.
Nina nodded, "The path that leads all the way from Rank-1 to Rank-4. The Ascended Path. It allows an Awaken to reach Elite level, finds their Seed and becomes a Champion, and finally, enhanced their mind to Ascendant Rank."
Ascendant. The fourth Rank on the multiversal scale. The highest possible rank in Minor Worlds. Even in Wild Earth, Ascendant was only a myth. Ryuja wasted his entire life but couldn’t even find the enlightenment to find it.
"Alright!" Carter clapped his hands. "You three should practice this Will Art along with the usual physical and combat training that we have. If you can master it, you can begin teaching it to the students of the Institute."
The three of them nodded.
"Remember. Choose your students wisely. A student will defy your legacy."
In the short trip back to Hexilia, Carter gave the two Mental Arts to the Invokers. He found out a new aspect of the Superhuman and created a Mental Art out of it. Other than that, Hexilia didn’t have much changes.
Without the Terror, this world had gone into its development state.
Carter didn’t leave any Doll behind. This world was peaceful so he didn’t need to guard it. Once he had arranged everything, Carter once again boarded the Prime Train and returned to Corrupted Corps.
He returned to the industrialized Victorian world of Corrupted Corps.
"It has been quite a while." Carter landed on the empty field like last time.
’Orkshire is near here. Maybe I can give Charles and Florence a visit?’
[SHADOW APOTHECARY EQUIPPED]
Carter had been using Elite and Champion Skins a lot lately. Shadow Apothecary was only an Awaken.
’Haven’t felt this weak for a while. I should find ways to increase my weak skins to Elite and Champion level.’
Dracula was once his strongest skin. But now, it wasn’t even in the top five. Dracula was only a 10 STAR Awaken.
The skinny doctor entered Orkshire once more. He immediately noticed the deplorable state of the city.
’Everything went to hell, again? It was the same thing when I left Hexilia last time.’
Carter noticed that Undead were walking openly on the streets now.
An Undead jumped at him from the shadow.
