Chapter 1296 - 90: The Members_2
Serey straightened his tie, wiping a glass as he said, "This is the Undying Club. As you can see, these are all Undead."As soon as he finished, a tall figure beside Bologue grunted twice. Bologue turned his head; beneath that face caked with rotting flesh and moss, a ghostly green light flickered in its eyes. It伸出手湿哒哒的手,伯洛戈有些没反应过来,但还是本能地伸出了手.
The moss monster gripped Bologue’s hand, gave it a couple of hard shakes, and let out a string of strange sounds from its mouth.
"He says he’s very glad to meet you, Mr. Lazarus," Serey translated beside him. "Normally everyone’s pretty enthusiastic. With a new member like you, they’d definitely throw you a welcome party. It’s just that something’s up today, so people might seem a bit lukewarm. Don’t mind it."
After translating, Serey bent down and explained quietly in Bologue’s ear, "We all call him the Moss Monster. He should be from some savage primitive tribe. His language doesn’t exist in any records. I’ve only known him long enough to barely understand what he says."
Once Bologue had the situation clear, he looked again at the Moss Monster at his side. He put on another slightly awkward, polite smile, took the orange juice Serey handed him, and lightly clinked his glass against the Moss Monster’s. That more or less counted as them being acquainted.
"Members? I remember they’re supposed to be in eternal slumber, aren’t they?"
Bologue picked up a napkin and wiped his own damp hand. "Why are they all out and about today, is there some holiday?"
Things being off like this, Bologue’s expert alarm was going off nonstop in his head. In an instant, so many Undead appearing in Oubos—if they ever lost control, that would be a real, full-blown catastrophe.
When it came to the reason for the members awakening en masse, Serey fell silent. It was hard to tell if he wanted to hide something, or if he simply didn’t know where to begin.
Seeing him hesitate, Bologue asked at once, "Where’s Sai Zong? I want to see Sai Zong!"
Serey might not understand the true nature of the Undying Club, but Bologue was different. He knew Sai Zong was the real boss here, and he knew that at the end of the stairwell there slept a Devil.
"Sai Zong?"
At the mention of Sai Zong’s name, Serey’s expression changed. Not only Serey—beside Bologue, the Moss Monster also looked at him with an odd look, and even all the Undead in the bar stopped their conversations, turning to stare at this young member, Bologue.
Bologue did not crumble under the weight of their gazes; instead, his expression grew darker. In terms of aura, he actually seemed a bit more vicious than the crowd of Undead.
He’d been hanging around the Undying Club for so long, yet this was the first time Bologue had run into something this eerie. He didn’t want to waste time and moved straight toward the stairwell. Just as he was about to set foot on the steps, a black cat blocked his way.
"Wei’Er?" Bologue said.
"Bologue."
Wei’Er answered, casually licking her paw. She circled Bologue’s legs a few times, brushing against him with her fluffy tail.
"What happened?" Bologue asked again.
Wei’Er sighed helplessly. She leapt up onto the bar, and Bologue followed her over. The other Undead made room for him, and Bologue sat down in the center.
"We were laughed awake."
In the silence, one Undead was the first to speak.
"Logically, with the Undying Club’s power, no one should be able to interfere with this place, and we ourselves are very strong... But that’s how it was: a peal of mocking laughter sounded, and then we were woken up one after another by that mockery, unable to fall back asleep," another Undead said.
"Then we felt a... subtle kind of power."
This time it was Bode who spoke. The enormous skeletal frame sat not far from Bologue, and this time Bode was no longer holding that familiar mop but a rusted long spear. Ever since the incident, that weapon had never left his hand.
"It was like being controlled by someone, a mission that suddenly descended on us," Bode tried to describe how he’d felt. "An uncontrollable rage."
"A desire to fight."
Serey’s voice rang out as he squeezed past the Undead, revealing himself.
"Remember what I told you, Bologue?"
Serey shook out the apron on his body. "I don’t even know when exactly it happened, but I became the bartender of the Undying Club. That change was completely silent."
As he spoke, he looked around at all the Undead of the Undying Club.
"Likewise, the shelter of the Undying Club isn’t free. All of us have to shoulder some kind of function here. It’s just that in the days before, it never needed us. But in that instant, a feverish desire to fight sprouted in my heart, to fight for the Undying Club..."
Serey fell silent for a moment after he finished, then said with a self-mocking tone, "How is that even possible? Not even the Eternal Night Empire ever made me feel like selling my life for it."
No one laughed at Serey. Everyone silently nodded, indicating that they’d had the same emotional reaction as he did. Under the influence of that fervor, they had all walked out of their rooms to destroy that powerful enemy.
"And then? Did the battle break out?"
Bologue didn’t think so. Even if these Undead’s Alchemy Matrices were several eras out of date, their Tiers were fixed, and the Ethereal Amount they possessed wouldn’t change. Once that mountain-shaking, sea-roaring power erupted, it would be enough to unleash a terrifying disaster, and the nearby Order Bureau would never sit idly by.
"That’s where the mystery lies."
